Italy
is an unique nation for foreign students from all over the world
to experience a different kind of culture: Italian are warm, family
oriented and they are strictly linked to their regional traditions.
Italy offers several ways of being discovered. From a geographical
point of view, each landscape is a picture worth of a journey.
Nothing is lacking in its beautiful panoramas: snowy peaks, sweet
hills, golden beaches, multicoloured fields and the great fashion
of ancient architectures from the Roman Time. Just think at what
attracts you most and you will find it there.
Italy is also famous for its food, a wonderful mix of every kind
of flavour to please and satisfy all tastes.
Yet Italy means not only museum and expensive cities, crowded by
tourists and somehow artificial. There is also another, much more
natural Italy: a spontaneous reality far off from the touristic
main roads, where you will find also our town.
Macerata is a small, but culturally rich, city of 45,000 inhabitants.
In terms of quality of services and environment, it has been singled
out as one of our most pleasant cities. It is the second province
in Italy for the quality of air and water, public green areas and
over all quality of life.
The area is equally famous for its natural beauty and artistic heritage.
Macerata, once defined by a II century poet the nice town
on the hills, is the quintessence of the region, the integral
example of the sweetest landscape of the area. It has 170 Km of
beaches for bathing along the Adriatic coast and ski facilities
in the Sibylline Mountains, both of which are within 30 minutes
of the city.
The land between the mountains and the sea is remarkable for its
rolling hills. These are crowded by several cities whose fame is
derived as much from the artistic and architectural treasures (
Recanati, Cingoli, San Severino, Fermo ). They preserve the memory
of the artists and the thinkers they gave birth to; just to name
a few: Raffaello, Bramante, Gentile da Fabriano, Federico II, Giambattista
Pergolesi, Gaspare Spontini, Gioacchino Rossini, Giacomo Leopardi,
Beniamino Gigli and last but not least, Matteo Ricci, who spent
most of his life in the 17th century China, and whose extraordinary
achievements brought him to be remembered and respected in China
and in the western countries as the founder of Western Sinology.
With its familiar pubs, its funny discos, its picturesque tavernas,
Macerata offers simple and genuine ways of spending free time for
young people.
As most accommodations are set in the centre of the city, the most
interesting places are easily accessible on foot or by bus even
by night. Foreign students are always the most appreciated guests.
There are often organized parties for the different international
students societies represented, each presenting traditional food,
music, customs and fancy dresses.
For those who love music, in Summer a world wide known Lyrical Season
takes place at the Sferisterio ( the second largest Arena in Italy
), while during the academic year many concerts of rock, pop, jazz
and modern music are planned in our theatre and stadium. For those
who love arts, the whole area is full of romanic churches, castles
worth of a visit and museums, offering a large panorama of exhibitions
and cultural activities.
Italian students are always glad to know different lifestyles and
to help foreigners in setting down. Our International Relations
Office will help you to face any difficulty you may find.
