This programme focuses on the concept of ‘hybrid management’ and its application in organisations where new and existing working practices are becoming increasingly dependent upon the effective integration of information technologies and business. This programme was created as a direct response to the need for a greater understanding of the role advanced technology plays in the workplace and at home. It also addresses the industry need for CEO’s to understand and appreciate the strategic value of such technology as a source of competitive advantage, both nationally and internationally.

The programme is taught jointly by the School of Management and the Department of Computer Science providing the advantage of theoretically informed, relevant knowledge, about modern information and communications technology and its use in business, from both a management and information technology perspective.

During the Spring term, students study the information Systems Theory and Practice course where they attend industry lectures from companies such as IBM, Enterprise Rent-a-Car & Business Thinking.

The course objectives are to provide students with specialist insights, delivered by experienced industry professionals, into the constraints and opportunities facing those who work in IT and business related fields. Students then work together to create innovative ideas and produce a project where they combine business with IT. They work on these in small groups, finally presenting these concepts back to industry.

The programme offers a mix of core and elective modules to give flexibility to students to pursue different interests. The three core courses cover topics that are most relevant to the multi-disciplinary aspects of Business Information Systems.
In addition, students choose two electives in Management and two in Computer Science from a range of options offered each year.
