Course Description

The MSc International Business has been carefully crafted to reflect the complex, dynamic and multi-faceted character of this contemporary subject area. There has never been a more exciting time to study international business as it enters a period of dramatic change. The turmoil in the Eurozone countries and the United States as they struggle with burgeoning debt contrasts sharply with the growth in emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China, offering new opportunities and challenges. Today’s businesses operate in a dynamic global business environment in which managers have to deal with rapidly changing markets and a climate of tremendous uncertainty. These challenges call for new skills and new thinking as businesses strive to reinvent and innovate. The new MSc International Business prepares you for this new international business arena by addressing issues of culture, politics, and economics, as well as equipping you with the personal attributes and analytical skills required for a career in the international business world.
 
The focus is very much on developing you to acquire the skills and attributes necessary for leadership, entrepreneurship and policy-making of tomorrow in management, strategy and decision-making and communication. You’ll also develop a clear understanding of the environment in which international businesses operate in terms of economics, finance and governance, as well as politics and culture. The dissertation provides an opportunity for you to set yourself apart and demonstrate to potential employers a high level of thinking in a specialist area. Your work is supported and supervised by experienced, research active members of staff, and may lead to publication.
 
With a strong emphasis on the development to of employment skills, you’ll go on to pursue careers in business, management or policy making. You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake further research by enrolling on the MPhil/PhD programme.
 
As well as a strong international element, the programme has active practitioner involvement and brings real life professional and business situations in to the classroom. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of seminars and conferences, and benefit from the Business School’s strong links with international bankers, accountants, commodity traders, stockbrokers, professional institutions in the City of London.
 
Course Structure:
 
The programme contains 7 taught modules and a dissertation.  Each of the taught modules consists of around 30 hours of directed tuition consisting of a mixture of lectures, seminars, teamwork, discussion, presentations and case studies.
 
Assessment will take a number of forms, including presentations, reports, case study analysis, group work and reflective pieces. There are no examinations in this programme.
