Course Description

International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) is a four-year BBA degree programme which is completely offered in English. The IBMS study programme is a combination of elements from the traditional economics programmes in the fields of Finance, Marketing, Accountancy, Management and Sales and focuses on international trade and commerce. The internationality is displayed in both educational contents as in student population.

Characteristics

IBMS students are trained to have a broad business perspective. The core topics of theoretical learning are:
 
Furthermore, the programme is characterised by its practical and international approach. Students will start their own student company for a year and are obligated to do a an internship abroad. They also have the choice to participate in an exchange programme with one of the partner universities all over the world and/or to do a minor abroad.

Structure of the course

The first year is a so called foundation year or propaedeutic phase. In this year students will gain general knowledge about economics and business. After the first year students enter the main phase, which lasts for three years. In the second course year the main phase consists of the acquisition of professional competences in the Student Company project. International groups of students start their own mini businesses. Students pick a product or a service and run real-life businesses until the end of the academic year.
 
During the work placement in the third course year all students conduct a 5-month traineeship within a company anywhere in the world. After the work placement, students return to ‘the Learning Community’ for feedback and additional courses.
 
Students will end the study programme with a graduation assignment. Once again this takes place within the framework of a 5-month traineeship at a company. Students will write their Bachelor thesis under the supervision of a lecturer.
 

Competences

IBMS students will develop management skills that enable them to operate in international companies. Besides these management skills, the IBMS students are trained in professional skills such as: cultural awareness, (personal) leadership and cooperation, communication, analysing and information processing, planning and organising, learning and professional self-development, ethical responsibility and creative problem solving. These skills will enable them to deal with issues such as:
