Course Description

Chemical engineers are always in demand as the industry and business rely on chemicals to create products for manufacturing. Typical examples include fertilizer production for farming and agricultural sectors; manufacture of cosmetics, fi ne chemicals, and pharmaceutical products; oil and petrochemical products; and many other everyday goods.

The rise of green initiatives such as bio-based manufacturing, global challenges on sustainability under energy, food and water are also providing opportunities for chemical engineers in these rapidly emerging areas. The recycling industry will also continue to grow as natural resources continue to dwindle and pollution control for sustainable development becoming more and more important. Thus being the case, there will be a constant demand for chemical engineers.

The SEGi BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering programme is crafted to produce graduates who are able to practise as an engineer in industries related to chemical engineering in the global market.

Not only will they have all the necessary technical competence required of the discipline, they will be trained to model problems, formulate solutions based on a system approach and conduct research, among many other qualities instilled through the degree programme.

This programme has been approved by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), which makes it recognised by the Washington Accord, of which Malaysia is already a member of.

The Washington Accord is an international agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting engineering degree programmes. It recognises the substantial equivalency of programmes accredited by those bodies and recommends that graduates of programmes accredited by any of the signatory bodies be recognized by the other bodies as having met the academic requirements for entry to the practice of engineering.
