Course Description

The SEGi BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering is developed to produce graduates who are able to address both technological and societal challenges in the fi eld of mechanical engineering.

Year 1 of the programme aims to consolidate mathematical and scientifi c knowledge while
introducing the fundamentals of mechanical engineering. During their fi rst year, students build a
base-line of knowledge and skills, irrespective of their academic backgrounds; thus, examination
results from this year do not contribute to their fi nal grades.

Year 2 provides students the fundamentals of mechanical engineering with an emphasis on
application to real engineering components. The two mathematics modules during this year
continue the development of students’ essential skills but these now concentrate on modelling and computational aspects.

In Year 3, students are to undertake integrated project in design and research in the area of their
interest while studying more advanced mechanical subjects.

In year 4, students are to undertake a fi nal year project and choose from electives of their interest as well as non-mechanical subject areas like management and environmental issues that are essential for a professional engineer in the modern world.

This programme has been approved by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), which makes it recognised by the Washington Accord, of which Malaysia is already a member of.
