Course Summary

Course Description

The mission of the psychology program is to increase the awareness of the boundaries and applications of psychology, foster intellectual development and problem solving, and encourage students to serve others within the context of Christian faith. The psychology program is committed to cultivating multicultural awareness and appreciation for the magnificence of God viewed through human diversity. The program prepares students to pursue helping professions and/or graduate study.

Psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, but with nearly boundless applications in everyday life. Some psychologists do basic research and formulate theories, other psychologists apply the discipline’s scientific knowledge to help people, organizations and communities function better. Psychologists study both normal and abnormal functioning and treat patients with mental and emotional problems. They also study and encourage behaviors that build wellness and emotional resilience. The work of psychology impacts patients and clients, in schools, in hospitals, in corporate settings, in faith-based communities, within the judicial system, even in professional sports.
