Course Description
As a major in Paralegal Studies, you’ll take courses in topics such as:
- Introduction to law
- Civil litigation
- Wills and estates
- Family law
- Legal research and writing
The program focuses on training students to work under the supervision of an attorney. As a paralegal — also known as a legal assistant — you will not be licensed to practice law; instead, you’ll provide assistance to an attorney and aid with serving clients more efficiently and effectively. The curriculum seeks to teach students about legal ethics, introduce them to major areas of law, train them to draft legal documents and perform legal research, expose them to state and federal court systems and procedures, and qualify them for beginning assignments as a paralegal. Graduates will find employment opportunities with private law firms, government agencies and corporate legal departments.
