The M.S. programs give students the opportunity to demonstrate and develop their potential for work in chemistry or biochemistry. They are especially attractive to those who have been out of an academic environment for some time or for those who wish to reinforce their undergraduate science experience. The M.S. degree programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry prepare students for positions of responsibility in industry or government, for further study toward a doctoral degree, or for teaching at the high school or community college level.
The M.S. degree programs offered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry are very well-rounded terminal degree programs. In addition to course-work in core areas of chemistry or biochemistry, each program emphasizes training in research by requiring a significant research project with a Master's thesis under the supervision of a professor.
