Course Description

This course produces graduates who can use their languages working in a variety of areas ranging from business and administration to teaching. You study two languages, one of which can be taken from scratch. We place strong emphasis on developing your practical skills in tasks such as translating, interpreting and oral communication. Language work concentrates on practical and professional usage. In addition, you will study the background to society in Germany and France as well as Europe in general. The third year is spent studying or working in both countries. Successful completion of the third year will result in the award of a Diploma in International Academic Studies (DIAS).

There is the opportunity to study as an ERASMUS student in Germany, or Switzerland and France The opportunity to study German or French from beginners or intermediate level as well as from A level standard.

The course also allows you to pick up a third language, Mandarin Chinese. You will be introduced to Chinese in a year one module, study two full modules in years 2 and 4, as well as be encouraged to pursue your study of the language in the foreign institutions during your intercalary third year.
