Course Description

Pace University's English Language Institute offers a Pre-Law (English for Lawyers) Program designed for students who want to apply to a Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program in the United States.  The curriculum is based on legal content.  Students get practice in writing legal English and developing academic legal style, learn reading strategies for understanding legal texts, orally brief, discuss and analyze legal cases, learn English-language legal vocabulary, deliver presentations on legal topics in a clear speaking style, and serves to introduce students to U.S. Common Law, the U.S. Federal System, legal education, and other aspects of the U.S. legal system.  Since 2007, the Pace ELI has prepared nearly 60 law students from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America to successfully complete their LL.M. program at Pace Law School.  Successful graduates have included a prominent lawyer from Brazil and judge from Thailand.

English for Lawyers is offered as a full-time 6-week summer program.  Part-time courses are available year round.
