Course Description
The BSc(Hons) Chemistry course at UCLan is unique from other undergraduate chemistry degrees. We provide a solid foundation in all the traditional elements of physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. In conjunction with this, there is extensive study of analytical science and a strong emphasis on the modern practices that are at the forefront of changes that have revolutionised chemicals manufacture for a sustainable future and given rise to the term ‘Green Chemistry.’At UCLan, Chemistry is a practical course and the key elements of Physical, Inorganic, Organic and Analytical Chemistry are strongly underpinned by laboratory classes. Practical classes will be held in the new state-of-the-art JB Firth Building, which houses both undergraduate chemistry teaching laboratories, research laboratories and a well-equipped analytical suite where all chemistry students will be able to get hands on experience using equipment ranging from mass spectrometers to NMR's to electron microscopes.
Chemistry based research is focused on Materials Chemistry, with the Centre for Materials Science being awarded a Grade 4 in the last research assessment.
