Course Summary

Course Description

UCLan’s BA(Hons) Modern World History course gives students a broad understanding of world history since 1750 and of the ways in which modern historical developments have shaped present-day societies, politics and economies. The course therefore allows students to develop their knowledge of global international trends in modern world history. A key aim of the course is to enable students to act as modern international historians themselves through the analysis of evidence, creation of their own interpretations, and the development of transferable skills which will be useful for future careers.

At UCLan Modern World History is a flexible course which enables students to self-direct their learning via a number of different optional pathways. In Year 1, students develop core history skills and explore the history of different countries in four pathways focusing on Europe, America, Asia and Africa. These pathways form the basis for Years 2 and 3, allowing students to study global trends and international relations as well as countries of particular interest. In addition to history, students can broaden their learning if they wish with subjects from related disciplines like Politics, Asia-Pacific Studies and American Studies.
