Course Summary

Course Description

If you want to develop your talent as a visual artist, you have come to the right place. Art and Design majors at Centenary College have the unique opportunity to create, produce and direct a full-scale solo exhibition before they complete their undergraduate education. Our students not only grow as artists, they graduate with the confidence and preparation needed to succeed in a creative profession.

The Art & Design major fuses a variety of studio art and graphic design courses within a liberal arts core. Students are motivated to express their creativity through concentration in the fine arts, where they will be prepared for careers in painting, drawing, printmaking and in commercial or applied arts, illustration, advertising, graphic design, and photography.

As a condition of graduation, all Fine Arts students are required to prepare a professional career portfolio and mount a one-person show. The year-long Visual Arts Project is a unique course that prepares the students to mount their own show and manage an art gallery.

Students also have the opportunity to study off-campus. Regular field trips to New York/New Jersey museums, trade show rooms, galleries and auction houses. Students may also spend a semester in England at the American College in London.
