Coventry University - Faculty of Engineering and Computing
In August 2012, the Faculty of Engineering and Computing opened its iconic new building to support new ways of learning. The stunning new £55 million centre is innovative both inside and out. Its visually stunning, futuristic exterior marks it as an iconic building at the heart of one of the UK’s most historic engineering cities. Environmentally, it is highly sustainable, using a range of technologies including rainwater harvesting, solar thermal energy and biomass boilers. Inside, it is equally forward-looking, with a completely fresh approach to organising spaces so they best support new ways of learning. The new building will also foster Activity Led Learning (ALL) which the faculty is promoting as the way forward for 21st century graduates. The building is a fantastic learning environment with:
-
a 2,000 metre square laboratory which is highly connected,
flexible and visible -
collaborative classrooms and IT rooms where students sit in
groups of 6 or 9 around tables with retractable computer screens -
audio visual technology fitted in these rooms to allow lecturers
to “take over” students’ computers or to show examples of one
student’s work to everyone
Courses include Aerospace Systems Engineering, Aerospace Technology, Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, Architecture, Architecture Technology, Computing, Engineering, Games Technology, Motorsport Engineering and Multimedia Computing to name but a few.
