John Carroll University (JCU)

About John Carroll University
For 125 years, John Carroll University (JCU) has been focused on graduating students with intellect and character in the Jesuit tradition of educational excellence. Located in the beautiful, safe Cleveland suburb of University Heights, our 60-acre campus is easy to navigate and offers state-of-the-art facilities including the Dolan Center for Science and Technology and fitness centers for organized sports and recreation. We offer 52 distinct fields of study (majors) and a wide array of other academic concentrations that enrich our students and add depth and flexibility to their studies.

University Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, is the home of John Carroll University. The University is conveniently accessible by light-rail train to downtown Cleveland. This Midwest city of 430,000 people — located along beautiful Lake Erie – is a short flight to Chicago; Toronto; Washington, D.C.; New York City; and other major cities. Cleveland is an ethnically diverse and culturally rich home to many groups – from Eastern European and Jewish immigrants in the early 1900s, to an influx of Chinese, Indian, Latino, Middle Eastern, and Vietnamese residents over the last 30 years.
Why students should study at JCU
John Carroll University provides an education grounded in the importance of a liberal arts core, teaching and classroom excellence, rigorous academic programs, and individualized advising. At John Carroll, education is based on the respect for each student and enlivened by our commitment to engaged teaching and supportive learning.

Nearly 3,000 undergraduates and 800 graduate students come from 29 U.S. states and 35 countries. Inside the classroom, they are taught in small classes (rarely exceeding 35 students) by 202 full-time faculty members, 91% of whom possess the highest degree possible in their field. These full professors teach undergraduate students and focus on classroom discussion rather than lecture. They also serve as academic advisors to students to offer personal support and monitor student progress throughout their studies at JCU.

The most common majors include accounting, management, biology, communication, education, political science and psychology, although because our philosophy and approach to education is rooted in the liberal arts, each of our academic programs is strong. We offer students many opportunities to engage in meaningful research and access to state-of-the-art technology and a completely wireless campus.

John Carroll University has received numerous distinctions. For the 22nd consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report ranked JCU in the top 10 among universities in the U.S. Midwest. In addition, we were ranked #15 by the same publication in the "Great Schools, Great Prices" category. Our business programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), placing us in the top 11% of business programs worldwide.
