The University of Edinburgh Business School enjoys a long tradition of teaching and research. The School offers undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education programmes in business and management and provides a platform for research, discussion and debate on a wide range of business issues.
With a rich heritage of delivering education for over 400 years, the Business School has an international student body typically representing more than 80 countries.
The School has a broad portfolio of educational programmes. These include:
- A substantial suite of undergraduate business programmes
- A suite of specialist MSc programmes, including Masters in Finance and Investment, Accounting and Finance, Financial Management, International Business and Emerging Markets, Management, Marketing, Marketing and Business Analysis, Carbon Finance, Banking and Risk and Human Resource Management
- Full time (12 or 16 months) and Executive (2 year) MBA programmes
- A PhD programme and a one year MSc by research
- A bespoke portfolio of executive education programmes designed exclusively for corporate clients
The School’s teaching and research covers six main subject areas – accounting & finance, entrepreneurship & innovation, management science & business economics, marketing, organisational studies and strategy & international business. The School is accredited by EQUIS and AMBA and consistently ranked in the Financial Times Rankings, as well as featuring regularly in the Economist rankings – reflecting not just a long history of business teaching, but also the substantial experience of a faculty comprising more than 85 teaching staff.
The Business School contributes to contemporary, global business and management issues by providing a forum for discussion and debate, that brings international academic and practitioner communities together. Many of the School’s teaching staff gained significant industry experience before entering academia, and many are active in industry-based research and consultancy for commercial organisations and government bodies. This research work both feeds into the quality of the teaching and provides participating companies with the latest thinking in the field of business and organisational development.
The ethos of the School is to connect degrees, teaching and research into areas felt to be particularly relevant to the business community.
Recently the School relocated to a new building at Buccleuch Place, located at the heart of the University campus. This state-of-the-art space features eight lecture theatres, multiple syndicate rooms, an executive education suite, student study centre and online resource, cafe and significant flexible space for staff and students. The building has been designed and specified to meet the current and anticipated future needs of the School’s portfolio of activities and represents an investment of £17m by the University. The refurbished and extended building in George Square provides world-class facilities for the Business School’s students.
