The Intensive English Language Program
(IELP) is part of CSU. It provides 20 hours of ESL instruction per week at 4 different levels. Completion of the IELP fulfills the language requirement for admission to Cleveland State. The program is academically-oriented to prepare students for the American college classroom. A separate application is required for the IELP.
Requirements for CSU: 2013 high school graduate with at least a 3.0 GPA. Student must accept admission to CSU by May 1st and enroll for at least 15 fall credit hours. Dates for other semesters are on the website. Conditional admission is available only for undergraduate students.
Requirements for the IELP (ESL) are receipt of an application, application fee, original financial support documents, and a copy ofthe applicant's passport page. IELP applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Cleveland State University's 85-acre urban campus is located in the heart of Cleveland and features a vibrant campus life. CSU has developed a student experience featuring student services, new buildings, modern classrooms, state-of-the-art technology, tasty eating options and some of the finest student residence halls in the country.Cleveland State University is home to more than 200 student clubs that engage students in all sorts of activities.
IELP students may join these clubs and use all student services, including the Recreation Center. The IELP also organizes several trips during the semester for the IELP students. Some of the more popular trips are: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cedar Point Amusement Park, Amish farm country, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Botanical Garden and Niagara Falls.
International students, including IELP students, may live on- or off-campus. The Residence Life Department oversees three different residence halls that can house over 1200 students. Students must plan ahead and contact www.csuohio.edu/reslife in order to apply for on-campus housing.
There is also a link for off-campus housing information on their webpage. New students will have to stay in a hotel until they make arrangements for apartments.
Applications to the Intensive English Language Program are accepted for three different semesters with deadlines in July (for Fall), November (for Spring) and March (for Summer). The application can be done online or contact us for more information.
