Here at the American University of Barbados, we offer aspiring medical students two comprehensive MD programs to provide them with the knowledge and training to start their careers. Our 5½ year MD program is structured specifically for high school graduates or individuals who do not possess the necessary prerequisites to commence the 4 year MD program. The program provides the student with a fundamental pre medical background as well as a sound foundation to make an informed decision on pursuing medicine.

Our 4 year program is designed for students who possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification. This program is divided into Basic Sciences and Clinical Science curriculums. Students receive Basic Sciences experience in Barbados. In the final two year of this program we offer students the opportunity to complete their clinical training at our affiliated hospitals in the USA and other countries.

Here at the American University of Barbados we offer a USA styled medical curriculum which is based on the United States Medical Licensing Examination and provides students with hands on experience while qualifying to be a medical doctor. Under this style curriculum the successful students are able to join the US Medical Residency Program, 5 ½ years after high school and 4 years after Bachelor's Degree.

Students constantly prepare for their USMLE through regular quizzes and tests and a USMLE board review course. This review course continues up until the student has passed Step 1 of the examination at the end of the Basic Sciences curriculum. Students are prepared for Step 2 of USMLE during their clinical rotations.

Through our USA Clinical Clerkship Rotations students receive personal, specialized, hands on training providing them with extensive exposure to the medical world and allow AUB to produce qualified and competent medical graduates.

Our entire curriculum is taught in the English language by qualified and experienced medical doctors. During their clinical rotations students also receive professional guidance from practicing US medical doctors. Students also have the advantage of small class sizes for a more personalized learning experience.

American University of Barbados is an associate concern of Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital in India. Era'sLucknow Medical College has been successfully running a 900 bed hospital catering to thousands of patients for a decade. It is recognized and accredited by the Government of India and Medical Council of India.
