Bachelor Degrees
This school offers a wide-range of Bachelor Degrees. Bachelor students can also earn their law credits abroad through one of the Foreign Study Programmes.
Degree of Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
The LLB requires three years to complete, during which students must give a satisfactory performance in a broad selection of law subjects. The LLB can also be completed in two years by graduates of other disciplines.
Degree of LLB with Honours
The LLB with Honours is a four year programme which requires the completion of a dissertation. This degree is an excellent alternative to the BA Liberal Arts degree for North Americans who plan on entering Law School after their Bachelor studies. The Aberdeen LLB is more than the pre-law degree offered in some North American Universities; it is a legal qualification in its own right in the UK.
Combined LLB Degrees
Law students who wish to study subjects not in the law curriculum are encouraged to do so, and receive a special LLB or LLB (Honours). The Law degree may be combined with the study of the law of another country, or with another discipline such as Economics or Music.
Postgraduate Taught Degrees
The School of Law offers the Master of Laws (LLM) degree as a taught, one-year programme with entry-points in January and September. Students may choose to specialise in several different fields of study, including Oil & Gas Law, International Law, Human Rights, and Climate Change Law and Sustainable Development.
Taught Postgraduate students join a thriving community of approximately 200 LLM students from all over the world. The diverse population of the LLM community provides excellent opportunities for international networking. Our LLM students gain personal, cultural and educational advantages from studying at an ancient university and living abroad in an English speaking country
Research Degrees
Postgraduate research at the School covers all areas of law, with special emphasis on commercial law, criminal law, energy law, environmental law, international law, and comparative law. The School offers both Master of Laws by research and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law programmes.
