Ramesh Dewan announces a quarterly 1 million International Student visitors internet traffic
Ramesh Dewan, Chairman of SR Media was pleased to announce recently that the total number of visitors to their portfolio of websites that relate to international student recruitment worldwide reached the 1 million visitors mark for the quarter May to July 2010 according to Google Analytics.
This is a remarkable figure since 86% were new or unique visitors and the average time on each page was just under 2 minutes.
SR Media, which was founded by Ramesh Dewan over 35 years ago, are responsible for producing a number of educational websites that allow students worldwide to research course, college and university information, predominantly at higher education in the UK and USA. Ramesh Dewan stated that it is interesting to note that these figures do not take into account their E-brochure and E-prospectus range for universities which add a further 196,000 pageviews over the period, at an amazing 6.2% Bounce Rate (BR) and Average Time on Site of 4.57 minutes.
A detailed analysis of these Google Analytics shows a significant bias towards postgraduate degrees over undergraduate, a trend that seems likely to continue.
Forecasts of global demand for UK higher education is predicted to trebble from 2003 to 2020 by the British Council
The recent study of trends in higher education by Universities UK found a 48% increase in the number of international students between the year 2000 and 2006. In 2007/08, 229,640 students came from outside the European Union, compared with 117,290 in 1998/99.
China remained the "most significant" provider of students to the UK. A total of 19,385 Chinese students enrolled on first degree courses in the UK and 21,990 took up places for post-graduate study. SR Media's portfolio includes a dedicated Study Abroad site for students in China, in Chinese.
International students can be a lucrative source of income for UK universities, as students who come from outside the EU have to pay more for courses than their European peers. The Patterns of Higher Education Institutions in the UK report found that, between 2006/07 and 2007/08, universities saw a 10% rise in their income.
Ramesh Dewan, a commercial property magnate who is also trustee of The Dewan Foundation, pointed out that according to the Britich Council, in total, £1.88 bn of UK universities' income came from non-EU students in 2007/08, while government research grants accounted for less at £1.76 bn. "In these days of Coalition Government Expenditure Cuts, it is vital that British Universities maximise their income from overseas students" he said.
In addition to the web sites SR Media also publishes print magazines launched by Ramesh Dewan including 'Study Overseas', International Graduate', 'Chinese Student', 'Transworld Education' and 'Indian Student'.
