Introduction
Founded in 1884, the University of Wales
has a well-established tradition of excellence across a broad range
of academic disciplines. Today we have 7000 students, 20 academic
departments and 400 teaching staff. We are large enough to ensure
a breadth of academic and social activities, but are sufficiently
compact to enable the individual student to maintain a sense of
identity. A feature of Bangor's university life is its friendly
community spirit, and its ability to integrate within the life of
the cathedral city. Although not a campus university, it is often
described as a campus within a city, and you will find that all
departments and halls of accommodation are within easy walking distance
of one another.
There are few university towns or cities
that can rival Bangor's location - set in a region of outstanding
natural beauty, with the mountains, lakes and forests of the Snowdonia
National Park, as well as Gwynedd's dramatic coastline, on its doorstep.
Here we have unparalleled opportunities for outdoor sporting and
leisure activities, attracting many students to Bangor
