Engineering
Excellence at the University of Leeds
With an international
reputation for research and innovation, the University of
Leeds is one of the most popular universities in the UK.
Each year over 4,000 students from outside the UK choose
the University of Leeds. They come to a university world-famous
for its teaching and research, situated in the heart of
a vibrant, affordable, multicultural city.
Leeds is the
most popular university in the UK, with an international
reputation for its teaching and research. We have over 33,000
students taking some 700 undergraduate and 330 postgraduate
degree programmes, including a wide range of joint honours
degrees. Leeds graduates are sought by employers across
the globe and our extremely wide choice of courses enables
each individual to tailor his or her studies towards a chosen
career path.
In the last national
research review 35 of our academic schools were rated nationally
or internationally 'excellent' and over 800 researchers
were commended for projects of international importance,
with 5* or 5 in the ratings. This placed Leeds in the UK's
top ten universities for research. The research activity
feeds directly into our curriculum and teaching and means
that our courses are at the cutting edge in their field.
The University
is also acclaimed worldwide for the quality of its teaching
at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Leeds staff have
won prestigious national awards for quality and innovation
in teaching. Strong academic areas include the Arts, Business,
Biological Sciences, Engineering, Earth and the Environment,
Health including Medicine and Dentistry, Mathematics and
Physical Sciences, Performing Arts and the Social Sciences.
Engineering
At Leeds
The University of Leeds is home to one of the UK’s
top Engineering and Computing faculties, with an international
reputation for teaching and research. The Faculty has 5*
rated research, top teaching assessments and strong industrial
connections to ensure that the courses are up to date and
in line with employer needs.
In addition to
impressive credentials and first class facilities, there
is a friendly atmosphere and student-focused approach to
teaching. We pride ourselves on the professionalism of our
staff and the quality of the learning environment, promoting
excellence by offering a range of high quality, exciting,
theoretical and practical postgraduate courses which address
all aspects of engineering and computing.
Students who
have studied one of our postgraduate courses have either
gone on to further in depth study in the form of a PhD,
or have moved into a wide range of exciting careers. Technically
literate and highly numerate, many move into senior management
positions. With over 60 years of teaching international
students, our graduates can be found in top positions in
government and industry around the world.
In 2004/05 just
over 29% of students studying at Leeds came from over 84
different countries outside the UK. Of these 795 non-UK
students, 135 were in postgraduate research courses, 193
in postgraduate taught courses and 467 were undergraduates.
Therefore there is a rich and varied student community at
the University, which is itself, based in a vibrant, multicultural
and international city. The University Students Union has
over 130 clubs and societies, which means you are able to
meet other like minded students from the UK and the rest
of the world and share common interests.

of the world and can provide expert guidance on admissions
requirements.
Several scholarships
are available to international applicants. These are usually
awarded on academic merit and consist of a partial rebate

with a selection of countries and universities. Please contact
us for more information.
Demonstrating
our commitment to international students, Leeds has offices
in several countries where students can obtain advice about
the application process and pre-departure information. For

Excellent
Student Support
With around 5,000 students from outside the UK studying
at the University, student support services are excellent.
With pre-departure briefings in many countries, meet and
greet schemes at local stations, and induction programmes
on arrival, we do everything we can to help new students
settle in to University life. The University also provides
a comprehensive range of welfare and support services to
