  • A smaller city that is vigorous but not overwhelming.
  • A beautiful and clean environment, with a wonderful four-season climate.
  • A safe and friendly campus, and a community with strong civic and family values
  • Lower costs than four-year public and private institutions in Washington State

Interested in our Intensive English Language Program ?

The purpose of our ESL program is to raise the student’s English proficiency quickly, so that the student can enroll in regular credit-earning college courses. The program is designed to improve the full range of English language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Our ESL Program offers you:

  • Four levels of study
  • The best computer language center available anywhere in Washington
  • Classes held on-campus, with instructions by regular SFCC faculty
  • ESL students are part of the regular student population, and can join in all student activities, including the International Club, the Peer Mentor Program, and any of the 30 other student clubs on campus.

    What about Student Services ?

Our International Programs staff provides a variety of special services for international students, including: international student advising, international transcript evaluation, Visa/INS assistance, a very active International Student Club, a unique Peer Mentor association, and HomeStays with US families.

International students who have attended SFCC will tell you that it has a good environment for study: dedicated and accessible faculty with smaller classes that allow individual attention. Find our more about our college by visiting our web site at: www.spokanefalls.edu/International.

We are pleased to offer our website in English, Spanish and Japanese. Additional languages are planned this year in order to facilitate students who may have an interest in our ESL programs.

Why attend a community college instead of a 4-year college?
  • Admission is easier

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and academic requirements are usually lower for admission to community colleges than to four-year institutions.

  • Costs are less

Tuition at community colleges can be as much as 20% to 80% less than at four-year colleges and universities, particularly if the four-year school is private.

  • Community colleges are often smaller than four-year institutions
Classes are smaller, too. Teachers and advisors are able to provide personal attention to students. Many U.S. and international students say that attending smaller schools for the first two years helps them make a good transition into larger four-year schools for the final two years.

  • Instruction is always by college faculty

In many larger 4-year institutions, many classes and labs are taught by graduate students. At community colleges, all instruction is by regular college faculty.

  • Instructors are able to give personal attention to students

These teachers are working at community colleges because they choose to teach instead of conducting research and publishing articles. Some instructors at universities are mostly interested in research.

  • International Student enrollment is lower

Fewer international students generally means that advisors and counselors in the International Programs Office are more accessible, and able to spend more time with students.
