Established in 1842, The School of Pharmacy, University of London is the only specialist free-standing institution in the UK dedicated to education and research in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Located in central London, we are internationally renowned for our academic excellence and multidisciplinary research.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise for British universities 90 per cent of the research activity at The School of Pharmacy was deemed internationally significant and 25 per cent, world-leading.
The School is amongst the best equipped in the UK and home to eleven specialist research centres; and the first Global International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Collaborating Centre in partnership with WHO and UNESCO. We are based in the heart of the University of London’s main campus, in Bloomsbury – site for one of the largest concentrations of educational institutions, extensive libraries and learning resources in the world.
Taught programmes
Undergraduate (MPharm)
The School of Pharmacy offers the four-year undergraduate degree leading to the award of the Master of Pharmacy or MPharm. It is the only undergraduate degree that we teach, so all our teaching is tailored specifically for this programme. Graduates then proceed to the one-year pre-registration training that leads to registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Postgraduate (MSc)
Our taught postgraduate programmes portfolio consists of one-year full time MSc degrees in Drug Discovery, Drug Delivery, Pharmacognosy (Phytochemistry) and Clinical Pharmacy, International Practice and Policy.
Research programmes
MPhil / PhD
The School’s research interests are divided into four areas – drug discovery, neurosciences, formulation sciences and medicines use and health, and span a wide range of fields, including cancer chemotherapeutics, cancer drug discovery, clinical pharmacy, drug delivery, medicinal chemistry, molecular neuroscience, neuropharmacology, paediatric medicines, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical technology and materials science.
Students from over 40 countries impart the international flavour and diversity which penetrates every aspect of classroom learning, shapes social and cultural activities on campus. Our relatively small size and cohesive aims make for a focused attitude amongst staff and students in a context which is more co-operative than competitive, to the benefit of all of us.
