It has six and a half centuries of history: the University of Camerino was established in 1336. More than 10.000 students attend the University of Camerino today distributed throughout its 5 Faculties (Architecture, Pharmacy, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Science and Technology) all positively assessed by the CENSIS quality classification system, 13 departments and 5 campuses (Camerino, Ascoli Piceno, Matelica, Recanati, San Benedetto del Tronto). There are 297 teachers (meaning there is 1 teacher for every 34 students) and 312 technical-administrative clerks. UNICAM (the short name of this antique University) has an important tradition in didactics and in scientific research: there are numerous and innovative degrees being offered in the different faculties including Masters degrees, and many of its professors have received prestigious national and international recognition.
At Unicam, organized and structured services allow all students, even those at their first year, to study with profit. The University of Camerino is, in fact, “the natural place to learn” where spaces and appropriate tools are available for students and where a constant relationship with the teaching staff is possible thanks to the competitive professor/student ratio. Thanks to its geographical position, the town of Camerino enjoys a healthy climate with cold winters and warm dry summers. Since it is next to the ski slopes of the Sibylline mountain range (Mount Vettore -2476 m.), and, at the same time, only 45 minutes from the beaches of the Adriatic sea, Camerino enables you to be in contact with nature in all seasons. Theatrical and musical programs, concerts, cinemas, museums and cultural events, as well as the human dimension of the place all offer interesting opportunities to the visitor and the student.
The five Faculties of Unicam offer Degree Courses of certified quality, which respond well to the complexity and progress of the social and economic framework. A Lot of diversified Courses are offered and the specific study itineraries are designed on the basis of suggestions made by economic and professional personal . This is why courses are characterized both by a cultural content as well as professional aspects. In particular, in line with its policy to increase international cooperation and to establish an international higher education network, Unicam offers a comprehensive range of programs, ranging from undergraduate courses to doctorate studies, especially designed for international students, with lectures in English. These programs fall into three categories: the biotechnology undergraduate programme , the postgraduate programme concerning Environmental Risks and Resources - Curriculum “Water: Resource and Risks” and a Physics course and PhD courses. Unicam has also recently instituted an international School of Advanced Studies with the objective of increasing the participation of foreign students in its PhD programs. Foreign students will receive preferential treatment in the awarding of PhD student scholarships for the international School of Advanced Studies. The PhD courses involve 3 years of study and research, with a final thesis that can be written in either English or Italian. Teaching activities mainly involve seminars and topical Short Courses; research experience in laboratories outside of Camerino is possible and actively encouraged. Approximately half of the students admitted to the PhD programs will be awarded fully paid fellowships; the other students will need to find external financial support (however, research costs will be met by internal funds).
Unicam is a holder of the ISO 9001:2000 quality control certification for all its university activities and services, its cultural and sporting activities, its tutoring services, its certified language skills and training of all university students in companies in leading sectors, its high level and innovative masters degrees, its job placement upon graduation: these are just some aspects of this modern University with an antique tradition. User's satisfaction is constantly monitored by the university's Evaluation Nucleus.
As far as buildings are concerned, Unicam boasts of structures and equipment in continuous development, such as to render the quality of life and learning unique: modern sports facilities extending over an area of 20,000 square meters (5,000 of which are covered), dormitories for over 600 students, a new campus which will be able to house an additional 200 students, assistance to the disabled, didactic and scientific libraries containing 390,000 books and over 500 study stations, 20,000 square meters of research laboratories and 10,000 square meters of classroom area.
Services include scholarships for a total of 1.6 million euros and grants for more than 2 million euros. In addition, there are 20,000 sq.m of modern, functioning sports facilities, about 5,000 sq.m of which are roofed.
A tutoring service offered by professors and young graduates is made available to University students that are in difficulty or simply need information. The Unicam tutor, that is also available on-line, responds to the academic needs of the student (course program, studying for examinations, study methods, work training programs etc.) and is committed to introducing the student to university life and its methods and procedures while helping the student to quickly overcome difficulties.
Particular attention is also given to disabled students: specialized tutors are made available to disabled students. These students are given help with administrative procedures and with the didactics, as well as receiving free urban transport, logistics assistance, campus housing designed for disabled persons, reduction or exemption from University taxes (tuition) and free access to sports facilities.
"Mens sana in corpore sano" (a healthy mind in a healthy body): thanks to CUS, the University Sports Center, and the contributions of ERSU, the student has access to modern functional sports facilities just like the ones on the best American campuses. There are covered structures for swimming, basketball, volley-ball, aerobics and other sports activities. Other activities such as athletics, biking, mountain biking, jogging ect. find their best natural setting at Unicam.
