Dutch immigration procedures for international students

Foreign students who wish to study or do an internship in the Netherlands need to go through the Dutch immigration procedures. Depending on what you are going to do and for how long you are staying, you might need:

a short-stay visa
an authorization for temporary stay
a residence permit
a work permit

This section of the Nuffic website will help you to find out which procedures are important for international students.

Of course these procedures also apply to international researchers and (guest) lecturers who are working or planning to work in the Netherlands. For them, a special website is available at www.eracareers.nl. It contains a section “practical information” where information on visa, residence permits and work permits can be found. In addition, it also contains relevant job vacancies, information on research grants, and practical information on other subjects.
